Airway

·     Remote

Breathing

·     Hypoventilation -> profound hypercapnoea
(intubate and ventilate before emergence)

·     Stimulation -> laryngospasm, bronchospasm

·     Smoke inhalation -> deterioration in lung function

Circulation

·     Stimulation -> ↑HR, ↑BP, arrhythmias, AMI

Drugs

·     Inability to deliver volatile agent

·     Need for short-lived immobility

·     Need for apnoea vs spontaneous ventilation

Surgical complications

·     Bleeding

·     Pneumothorax
