1.Triage:

·         Timely assessment (socio-psycho-bio)

·         Timely treatment (cat 1-2-3 etc)

 

2.Patient prep:

·         Provide proper information: indication, risks, benefits, alternatives

·         Obtain informed consent

 

3.Facilities

·         According to ANZCA standards

·         Suitable procedure room: lighting, infection control, electrical safety, radiation safety, communication system

·         Suitable recovery room

·         Equipment in case of disaster

 

4.Sedation/anaesthesia

·         According to ANZCA standards (see elsewhere)

·         Use non-pharmacological means if possible

 

5.Imaging

·         Must be available if necessary

·         i.e. ultrasound, image intensifier, fluoroscopy

 

6.Proceduralist

·         Knows his/her stuff

·         Adequately trained or supervised

·         Partakes in CPD

 

7.Procedure

·         According to best practice

 

8.Documentation

·         Enough said

 

9.Outcome assessment

·         Record pain intensity before/during/after

 

10.Post-procedural care

·         Monitor in recovery

·         Hand-over if remaining in hospital

·         Discharge planning if going home
